Day 8

May 31, 2010

Three Rivers, Michigan was a great stop on the journey.

We eat ALOT!

The van!

We  were forced to spend the night camping out at a Wal-Mart parking lot after other offers we received fell through.  Following a fine Wal-Mart breakfast, we set out towards the west!  We had a great ride regardless of the hot and humid temperatures and the countless detours we were forced to make because of roads prohibiting non-motor vehicles.

We also got to swim in Lake Michigan, which looks as big as an ocean from the shores of Michiana, Michigan .  It was cold but refreshing after a long ride and counted as our shower for the day!

We are now in Chicago!  Thank you Daisy Sanko for the place to stay and for giving up your bed so Travis and Ty could sleep on it!  I would also like to thank Jacques Eady for helping us out figure out a parking situation on the streets of Chicago. Apparently having a trailer in Chicago during Memorial Day Weekend can be considered suspicious and dangerous (Regardless of all of the Pink Pedal stickers).  Look for The Pink Pedal to be featured in The Chicago Tribune in the near future.

Day 7

May 29, 2010

Day 7 brought The Pink Pedal 109 miles from Ann Arbor to Three Rivers, Michigan.

Nick preparing to ride.

For the first time in days, we didn’t make a wrong turn and we ended up making great time despite the hot and humid conditions.  We almost ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere, but found a BP (even though they are singlehandedly destroying the Gulf Of Mexico) in the knick of time.

John and Nick at the Falling Water Trail

I think Michigan needs to be renamed “The Roadkill State,” because throughout our ride today I think we might have seen well over 50 individual dead animals roasting in the sweltering heat.  Scores of people asked about our trip and showed support for the cause.  We are fighting breast cancer in our own way and it is amazing to see people behind us.

Lunch and Twin Six waterbottles!

The Pink Pedal goes to Chicagoland tommorrow!  Keep rockin the shirts and showing support.

PS: To any concerned parents (Mainly Paul and Toni), Ty busted his phone today and is unable to answer any phone calls or check any messages.

Travis eating a Supreme Protein Raptor Bar while Ty realizes his phone is broken.

Day 6

May 28, 2010

We are now in Ann Arbor, Michigan!  Thanks to Bickley family we can shower, do laundry, and eat a good meal.

The Pink Pedal crusing along with traffic.

While in Ann Arbor, Brian showed us the University of Michigan campus and we spent some time in their beautiful arboretum.  We ate at a great local burger joint, feasted on some soft served ice cream, listened to some of Ann Arbor’s finest MCs, and ended up in the center of town eating some pizza for a dollar twenty five.  Regardless of where we ate, John would always second guess his decision and ultimately be disappointed with his choice and complain about it for the next few hours.  Next time he is definitely going to get the turkey…

Thank You Brian!

Now we are off towards Chicago, Illinois.
